Developing Culturally Immersive Education in our ELL Classrooms

TESOL has been rapidly developing throughout the past years, and it is evident that this area of academia has provided ELL classrooms with an abundance of pedagogy to help our students achieve their goals. With our current technology and the assistance of readily accessible materials, the possibilities for creating an enriching learning environment are endless.

The type of pedagogy I will be focusing on is bridging culturally immersive education into our ESL classrooms. As our identities grow in a new environment, many English learners have found the need and desire to aspire to explore more about the environment in which they wish to assimilate more closely in, the United States.

Before moving forward, it is important to acknowledge the individual roots that build each English learner's identity. However, we should also take note that our past creates a pathway and foundation for the present.

John Stuart Mills On Liberty addresses this by eloquently stating that it is a privilege and proper condition of a human being, arrived at the maturity of his faculties, to use and interpret experience in his own way.

This capstone will serve as a tool to help better aid and guide ESL students by cultivating specific US cultural nuances in the classroom. As an imperative learning target, this create a space to educate and flourish the student’s desire to become successful members of our community should be considered in the ELL classroom as a lifelong learning target.
