Background and Educational Journey

Tell us about your educational journey?

My educational journey has been an enriching process, as I have been able to understand both the roles of a teacher and student. I have enjoyed creating new curriculum and activities for my students, while also helping them understand how to use resources and creative thinking to solve problems. Provided that my main role as a teacher is to cultivate students’ curiosity and provide information in the classroom, I have also been able to meet and develop bonds that have been life changing. Education is not only a career, but a way of understanding the world through the eyes of your students- which often varies from culture, religions, to different age groups and gender. Q and A: 1/26/2025

What led you to a career in education?

During my undergraduate program, I was introduced by a classmate to an opportunity to work and help foreigners pass their IELTS and TOFEL exam via WeChat. It was a rewarding experience, as I was able to help my students achieve their desired scores, make connections, and was able to learn about different cultures- while introducing them to customs here in America. When I graduated in 2020, I was eager to apply my linguistics background into more opportunities for teaching. I was hired by multiple tutoring companies and summer camps, all which I found to be an enriching experience that broadened my horizons and perspective of the world, and what it means to be, not only a teacher, but a leader as well. Fast forward a few years, during the summer of 2022, I was accepted into the TESOL program at Pepperdine University. This experience was eye opening and I was introduced to different types of approaches and methods that I use in my classrooms today. I am grateful for these opportunities which have led me to work in education and hope to continue on this path for years to come because I do enjoy being part of the learning process.  Q and A: 1/26/2025

During my down time- I enjoy playing the violin (for my own leisure, not professionally), and exploring different types of arts and crafts, including making jewelry and creating art with various types of mediums.  My other interests include language arts, writing, and keeping myself up to date in the world of education by reading and researching topics that might benefit my classroom and craft. Q and A: 1/26/2025
