Creating a Student e- Portfolio Using Google Sites
~a K8’s Arts, Crafts and ESL series- (Kate Ye)

This exercise is designed for all students, for any level. Materials needed: computer, past assignments stored on google drive, google account About: This project serves as an end of the session project to collect your student’s work and compose a website that can showcase his or her capabilities and progress in the classroom. It is quite simple to do, and it can be a great project to show parents, friends, or even have as a keepsake for all the work done in your class.
Directions: First, make sure the class all has access to a computer, wifi, and a browser. Second, have your students create a google email / drive account by going to www.gmail.com if they don't already have an account with google.
After you are done setting up the account, the student will be ready to create their very own website! There are many ways to access the “sites” section of your google workspace. This link will give you direct access to the site: https://sites.google.com/
After clicking on the link, there will be a selection of templates to choose from on the top of the page. You have the option of choosing any of the selections, however there is a student portfolio option that will make this process easier for you and your students to navigate around. Once you have selected the template, you are ready to create your own website. There are plenty of ways to play around with this site, but the main idea is to have a space where all of your students’ documents can be stored. There is an option on the side of the site where you can “add” a section to the page (image, doc, ppt). Check if the documents you are adding are in the available formats uploaded to google drive.
This is how these documents will be uploaded and presented on directly to the website. Be sure to select the “viewer” option so the documents can be viewed to the public. The screen shot above is what the prompt should look like. The documents will be updated in real time, so there is no need to re-upload an assignment if there should be any revisions.
Last step is to finally publish the site and create a name for the URL. Click on the Publish button, and there will be a prompt that pops up asking for you to name your new web address. Make sure that you allow access for the public to see your website. You can also choose another option of having only a select few people to view your site. That's it!
