The KATE method- Key Applications To Education

by Kate Ye

KATE method will allow teachers to use different key applications (with room to expand or mix different key teaching principles together ) to educate students with ease, confidence, and support.

Here are helpful KATE tips I have used for a motivated and interactive classroom

  1. Purpose driven - ask the students why they are taking this class ? What are the goals when they graduate from school? Remind the students that their goals shouldn’t be set in stone just yet - the classroom will help inspire them to have more ideas about their future.

  2. Kinesiology (TPR) incorporated - have students stretch every half hour or 50 min break to create a relaxed and productive lesson. It will help students focus and be motivated (intrinsically) if breaks include stretches because this is understood as part of a student centered learning plan vs straight study blocks and merit based.

  3. Adaptable - rigidity will stunt creativity - if there is a special holiday or event , provide a special lesson or topic for it (example : May 4th or the meaning behind TGIF )

  4. Structured - provide a predictable framework with time frames on topics or integration to new assignments for each class so the student knows what to expect each time . (First 10 min... then for 20 min...)

  5. Reflective - provide space for students to write or present what they thought about the topic at the end of class or week

  6. Open resources and notes- encourage students to take notes and use them while actively completing assignments and tests. Teach them how to use information , not to just be a walking encyclopedia

  7. Encourage outside resources and ideas - don’t limit your classroom to the materials you have- ask students to share any resources they find related to the topic

  8. Inspire from current events , role models , stories - keeping students up to date with current trends and cultivate empathy through storytelling

  9. Create - provide a platform for them to use their creativity in a project based on the lesson

10. Cultural empowerment - I have many examples of how to incorporate culture into the classroom , check out my academia site for more ideas. https://pahi3.academia.edu/kye :)
